S r Douglas Mawson has returned from 4) years’ work in connection with. the Ministry’of Munitions. He said he hoped that the Peace Conference would find time to deal definitely with the allocation of Antarctic lands. He felt that these regions were going to he of very considerable economic value. He thought he might fairly cfaiim that the section of the Antarctic between 90 do-, gveos and 180 degrees east should be under the control of Australia. ' Once whaling and sealing, which were things of the near future, were begun there would have to be control. There were immense areas of coal-hearing country in the Antarctic, hut he did not. think they would be developed for a very long €me.
