Anxietv is felt respecting what will happen to Crete upon the withdrawal of thi) international troops in July. Rofaaf Pasha declares that Turkey is willing to allow Cretan autonomy, but that Wreck occupation will be resisted to the finish.
The Powers set- up mi autonomy under tho nominal .suzerainty of tho Sultan in 1898, and in May, 1908, decided to gradually withdraw the international troops from the island, holding thai (he gendarmerie was able to maintain order. On October 7th, Crew declared for union with Greece, and His Powers stated they would give the matter friendly consideration.
