Grass Fires at Ashburton
Considerable Damage
By Telegraph.—Press Association. Ashborton, this day During the week damage by grass fires has beeen reported in various parts of the oountty. The most serious oooured at Lauriston, on the Rskaia-Metbyen line. The fire was fannod by the gale, and though hundreds of men were fighting it, it .destroyed a thousand acres of pasture, miles of fenoing, nini staoks of oats, farm implements, a'numbei of ram?, and many out buildings, One man, in order to save himself, rushed in'o the middle of a pond, The heaviest sufferer is Mr Walter Goodwin, who only reoently purohassd the firm.
