DEATH OP A CHIEF The death is announced of tho well known native chief Merriman, of tho Ngatimaru tribe, Deceased was 65 years of age, and was highly rospeoted throughout the distriot, Ho leaves a widow and large family of sons and daughters to mourn their loss, Some of tho daughters are married to Auckland representative and business men, Decoasod pridod himself on his possession of ,a medal given to him for saving the Misses Twohill from drowning years ago. THE HOKIANGA. FATALITY Information has been received that a man named Jamieson, who has been kdled in tho Hokianga distriot, is a fon of Mr Jamieson, of Waikawau, near Thames.
