The members ot the Waihi Federal Band aro to bo congratulated on the pronounce! succesy which attended tbo opening last night of their bazaar. Notwithstanding the threatening weather lucre was a large attendance, and for the greater ■ pun of the evening the interior of the Academy presented an animated and busy secsno, His Worship the Major formally opened tho bazaar, stating (lint he had always taken a grout interest in tho band since it first eamc into being. Ho knew something of its early history, and remembered tho promoters who undertook its organisation in 1892, Included in those pioneers were Gcorgo Tilsley and G. Hurtman. Since then it had steadily grown up to its present cflicionoy. Ho had every confidence in their conductor, Mr, Trussell, and thought that the band wcro fortunate in having his sorvices. Inreforiing to tho bazaar the Mayor paid a tribute of praiso to tho ladios for their arduous work in connection therewith. Ho was very ploased to seo so many present, which augured well for the success of tho bazaar, (Applause). Amongst those present on (ho platform was the Vory Itov. Fathor Brodio (president of the baud). Tho committeo achieved wonders in tho matter of decorations consmeriug tho short time at their disposal to do the work, tho Academy having been eng.igod right up to tho cvoning before, necessitating tho do* corations boing executed in a single day. Notfing could bo found wanting in tho goncral arrangements. The Bide attractions, including shooting and archery, wero well looliod aftor, the stalls and raliling were also in chargo of capablo hands, and all did good business.

THE STALLS Tho plain and fancy goods stalls was presided ovoi' by Mosdiunos Giluiour, MeDermoU, E. Darby, Trussell and Ponno, Evovything good and serviceable was hero displayed, and judging by tho attention it attracted, very fair business must have resultod,

Tho bachelors—and thoy wore conspicuous by their at-' tondiinoa—woro nblo to obtiin from tho stall almost overything nocded, oxoopt perhaps a lifo partner, Tho following young la.lios assisted in tho difforont stall*:—Missos Nowdick (2), Dunstan, MacMiilan, Hondersou, McDormott, MucCormick (2), and Mcohan.
