Professor W. Hewitson, master pf Knox College, Dunedin, and Professor in the Theological Hall of Pastoral Training was nominated to-day by the General Assembly as Moderator for the next Assembly,—Press Association. His friends will learn with regret of the death, on the 18th hist., of one of Wanganui’s old 'ettlers, Mr Frederick Csrvell, at the ripo age of 80 years. Mr Carvell, who was a native of Northampton. England, was one of the Dominion’s early colonists, having come out in the ship Emma Colvin, 66 years ago. His wife predeceased him in 1891, and he is survived by an ad lit family of six sons and four daughters, who will have the sympathy "of a wide circle of friends in their bereavement.
