THE GEAND. “A HOUSE DIVIDED/’ To-night’s attraction at The Grand ■will be the , first screening’ here of Ruth Bolt Boucdcault’s famous novel, “The Substance of His House,” which is dramatised as a picture play under the title of “A House Divided.” Two stars of considerable note appear in the leading roles: Miss Sylvia Dreamer and Herbert Eawlinson. The story deals with ago, beauty and youth. These three are participants in a iov© tangle involving the nobility of England. Beauty marries age; youth fights for place; who wins? “A House Divided” is passed as being more suitable fof adult audiences. The book had a wonderful sale, and the events which are recounted inside its pages stirred London society to gossip. The supports will te all new, and in addition “The Man of Might,” No, 14, will also be screened.

GARRISON BAND. MUNICIPAL CONCERT. The open-air concert, to be given by the Garrison Band in the Queen’s Park Rotunda to-morrow (Sunday) evening premises to he an enjoyable function. Some very attractive numbers will be included in the programme, the selection. “Don John” being very fine. A selection from the “French Maid” and a cornet solo “Till My Soul Be Free” will also he included. Two fine marches and an intermezzo will complete an attractive programme.

CARTER THE GREAT. THE BIG J. C. WILLIAMSON ATTRACTION. Coming witih a world-wide reputation. Carter the Great, prestidigitator, magician. and illusionist, will, under the direction of J. C. Williamson, Ltd., appear at the Municipal Opera House, Wanganui, on Thursday evening next. This famous magician has just completed what is regarded by J. G. Williamson, Ltd., as one of their most successful Australian tours, and the lengthy seasons played in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, and Adelaide, and also in West Australia, were marked by unprecedented enthusiasm, and it is said that nightly the big theatres were filled to overflowing. The -directorate of the J. G. Williamson firm selected Carter as their attraction in Adelaide, during the visit of H.R.H. the Prince of W T ales, and the scene at the Theatre Royal will be a memorable one. Carter the Great, it is claimed, is recognised as the greatest living exponent of the magic art, and his performance is admitted to be the biggest of its kind ever put on tour. The transport of his paraphernalia, scenery, etc., require three large trucks, and numerous assistants are travelled to manipulate the intricate mechanism of the big illusions. Magi o in all its branches has at all times made a wide appeal, and the entertainment as presented by Carter if said to be no exception. . There is mystery, weird phenomena, spectacle, humour, and, in addition, the student of the occult will find Sample food for reflection in a chapter from the supernatural. It is entirely a unique entertainment, and must not be confounded with the orthodox “magic show.” The important incidental music will be provided by a specially-selected orchestra which is included in the company. Tile Wanganui season must be limited to one night, and the box plan will be opened at H. I. Jones and Son’s on Monday morning.
