GAS-HOLDER'S EXPLOSION.

MELBOURNE, Nov. 5. At the resumed 1 inquiry to-day into the cause' of the destruction on the morning of April 4 of the gas-holder at Port Melbourne, Reginald Lewis, chief inspector of explosives, said that he was aware tha*b the day before the explosion took place the secretary of the Metropolitan Gas Company received an anonymous letter, dated March 31. It read: “I am a student of occult science, and it has come to my knowledge that during or about April ,25 there will be an attempt to blow up the company’s gasometer at South Melbourne, perhaps more.'

“Feeling the responsibility heavy upon me, I am writing to warn you, so that means may be taken to prevent, if possible, this awful thing.’’
