PEOPLE'S DAY

People’s flay proceedings were com tinned at the Snow after we went to press yesterday. Particular interest was evinced in the various and as thd weather was all in at could be desired the. day proved very enjoyable* to all present. During the afternoon selections were played by the Queen Alexandra Begi> mental Band and the Wanganui Pipe Band, which materially enhanoed tne, afternoon’s pleasure. The wants of the inner man during the Show were well looked after by Dustin’s, Ltd., whose catering called forth many encomiums, while Mr H. Mangusou dispensed the best of brands at the publican's booth. Reference to the Show would not be complete without a tribute to the work performed by the secretary (Mr F. G. Seddon) and his staff. Always there when wanted, apd ever courteous and ready to attend to the needs of all, Mr Seddon and his assistants deserve hearty praise for the way in which their multifarious duties were performed. One of the best contested sections In tho horse classes was that for the beet all-round filly, mare, or gelding for farm Soses. There were ten entries, ining representative* from the South Island, Taranaki, and other districts. The judge took some time to consider his verdict, which was in favour of Mr Hugh Middleton’s entry, D. Sar* geant being second. LEAPING COMPETITIONS. The chief attraction in the afternoon were the leaping competitions, which were witnessed by a large crowd of interested spectators. There was some very fine jumping, particularly ifi the West Coast Champion Hunters’ competition, which carried .£IOO in prise money. The winner proved to be Mr W. J. Simpson’s Mac, ridden by Mt G. Smith, a well-known Marton horseman, who also rode the second and third horse, and thoroughly deserved the ovntiop he was accorded when the results wfere announced.
