CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

MONTHLY MEETING., The usual monthly meeting of the Council of the Chamber of Commerce was held last night, Mr C. P. Brown presiding. There were aHo present: Messrs A. A. Willis, A. Harris, A. E. Rankin, W. Brown, J. Coul, J. T. Werry, S; Read, H. Rice, T. B. Williams, and S. Holm. COMMITTEES—The following sub-com-mitteesi were selected:—Finance and General: Messrs Coull, A. Willis, and Read. Shipping and Importers: Messrs Rankin, Holm, Harris, and W. Brown, Public Works and Railways; Messrs A., Robinson, T. B. Wiliams, Werry, Gregor McGregor, and W. L. Young. Legislative and Membership: Messrs Harris, Rice, and Coull. EDUCATIONAL.—The Technical College Committee wrote asking whether the Chamber would be willing to provide prizes for its commercial course as in the past. The Committee asked whether the Chamber would subscribe to the funds of the College Memorial Hall. The requests were referred.to the Finance Committee. WEIGHT OP SACKS.—A letter was received from the Wellington Co-opera-tive Waterside Labour Employment Association, enclosing the following resolution, after a conference with the representatives of the Watersiders’ Unions: “This Committee agrees that a letter be sent to all Chambers of Commerce and to the Head Office of the _ N.Z. Railways asking their assistance in limiting the weights of sacks of potatoes to not more than 2061b, sacks in, , and to point out if no imprpvement is effected further action may* follow. This matter to be again discussed in six months from date.” The same mandate ■ applies to sacks of other produce. —The letter was received. CONFERENCE—The President and Mr A. Harris were appointed thg Chamber’s delegates at the forthcoming annual conference of representatives of the Associated Chambers of Commerce.
