A strong south-westerly gale has been raging since Saturday afternoon, and this has greatly interfered with shipping operations locally. Lightering operations in the roadstead were suspended, and as the bar was unworkable, three coastal vessels which arrived here during the week-end were compelled to anchor outside until the weather moderated. These were the Regulus, from Westport, Waimea, from, Greymouth, and the Storm, from Lyttelton,. with produce. The Arapawa sailed from Onehunga on Saturday afternoon for Wanganui. She had not put in an appearance this morning, and is probably sheltering in the North Taranaki bight. The Mamari arrived from New Plymouth on Sunday evening to continue homeward loading, but no work was done to-day on account of the rough sea. Prom Wanganui the vessel proceeds to Wellington, and is to leave that port about November lltb for London, via Panama. The Port Curtis has been delayed here by bad weather. She was expected to leave on Saturday for Wellington, but When work ceased, the loading of her Wanganui cargo had not been completed. The Invercargill is expected to leave Wellington this evening for Wanganui. Sailings for Sydney per Union Co. are: Moana on Thursday from Wellington, and Maheno from Auckland on November 11th.
