Abnormal monsoonal rains have censed floods throughout the country, and they are parncularly severe in Bengal, "where a number of villages lave been swept away. At Jamshedpur a thousand huts iu the native quarter were destroyed and many people are homeless. Large areas of crops in various districts have been destroyed. The main streets of Calcutta were deeply flooded, and traffic suspended. Hcavv damage was donp to property.
