The solicitors of the Wanganui Meat Freezing Company wrote drawing the attention of the Board to the amount of surplus water which drained from Bryce Street on to the site of the company’s manure- department, in the course of erection. The company complained of the inconvenience this caused, and threatened to take legal action rf other means of abating the nuisance failed. Messrs Ford and Talboys, architects, also wrote asking relief from the same nuisance, which hampered work at the manure store they were erecting for the Freezing Company.—The matter was referred to the • Works Committee, with power to act. HOSPITAL LEVIES. The Hospital Board submitted Its proposals for the forthcoming year, and stated that the maintenance levy on the would be £IBO 4s 6d.—The increased amount of the levy, which has almost doubled, was the subject of considerable comment among members, one of whom expressed the opinion that it was “pretty solid.” HEADS ROAD. The Engineer reported considerable work on the Heads Road, near the Soap Works, where, in order to obviate periodical flooding, it had been found necessary to raise the roadway 2ft. Levelling and planting the seafront would he proceeded with when the Heads Road work was completed. In the water department the total number of services laid to date was 41, the main meter reading 835,000 gallons, a consumption of 23,000 gallons. Idle Harbour Board meter reading was 535,000 gallons, giving a consumption ■of 68,000 gallons. An additional chain of water piping had been laid for lire prevention purposes at the Freezing Works. « WATER CONNECTlONS. of the increased cost of appliances and labour, it was decided to raise the charge for water, connections after September Ist to £7 ss. BATHING SHEDS. The Chairman introduced the question of The new bathing sheds, and said it was time the building was completed. If tilings went on as at present it would not be done for next summer. It was decided that the contractors be informed that if the building is not completed at the end of the month the penal clause of £l. per "day'will be enforced. RAILWAY SITE.—The Chairman reported on the recent conference of local bodies with regard to a railway station site. Ho said that, although there had_ been considerable discussion, no finality bad been reached, and at present there seemed to bo little information available on the subject. They had so little knowledge of the Ectual scheme that they cculd as yet hardly suggest an alternative to the Racecourse site, which they had nob favoured at their last meeting. Mr Nixon said he thought the Board/being in the dark as to the actual proposals, should not yet express an opinion on the matter of the site. Mr Bevan agreed with Air Nixon, ami moved: ‘That, although the Board was not in favour of the Racecourse site, a definite opinion be held over until more data was available.” Mr McKenzie said they should look forward to reserving the' Racecourse for a breathing space in future, and take steps to have it kept for that purposes. Mr Nixon agreed that it would make an ideal reserve. He thought that if the port was at Castlecliff, as it certainly would be, then the Wanganui East site would be out of tbe question. Cr. Meuli alk> ■ agreed that the- Racecourse should be kept for a reserve, and that Wanganui East as a site was out of tlto question. The following resolution was then carried; “That" until this Board knows the cost, and hy whom it is to lie borne, of the proposal for a new station site at the Racecourse, it 's not prepared to support any proposal other than urging that some ■'immediate relief be given by the Railway Department by marshalling at Aramoho or Wanganui East.”
