AMUNDSEN’S EXPEDITION
Received —August 10, 9.15 a.m. NOME (Alaska), August 8. Amundsen sailed on Saturday. His proposed course is west of Wrangel Island toward the Siberian Islands, keeping in the open water until a favourable place is found to strike directly north, probably in the vicinity of the foundering of the Jeanette. He hopes to gain two years by this means. The Jeannette was lost in drifting from Wrangle to Jeannette Island.
