Mr John James, one of Wanganui’s best known and respected citizens passed away on Saturday last. Deceased was a natjve of Cornwall, England, and was 65 years of age. He spent most of his life in New Zealand, and was a member of the Wanganui Volunteer Fire Brigade for over 38 years. The Wellington Post’s London correspondent .sends the following “appreciation” oc Lady Jellicoe by one who knows her wail: “As Her Excellency in New Zealand, Lady Jellicoe will be of a -iew type. For she is a daughter, not cf a noble family, bat of one which has made its mark in trade. Her father. Sir Charles Cayzer, was a Clyde shipowner and head of the Clan Line. She had not met her future husband before 1902, when Lord Fisher added to .his many activities the role of match-maker. He knew the Cayzers and liked the high spirits and easy manner of the second daughter. Probabiv lie remembered, too, that she waa well dowered. He also knew and liked Captain Jellicoe. as he then was, and he had marked him ont as the future commander of the British Navy. So he discreetly brought the two together, with the happiest results. Lady Jellicoe, who lias a sunny temper and enjoys life as only people with great vitality -an, should, with her young daughters, make the social side of Government House gay for the next few years.” Miss L. Swan, who has resigned from His Majesty's Theatre Orchestra, has been engaged to fill the position as violinist at the Paramount Municipal Pictures.
