THE MANGAHAO SCHEME,)' WANGAMJTS CHANCE OF SUPPLY.; Wanganui’s chances of obtaining hydro-electricity from the Mangahao scheme are remote, as will be seen from the following letter received by the Borough Council from the Public Works Department;— “The power available from thid source is limited to 24,000 h.p., and although the erection of the main lines will be pushed on continuously from Mangahao via Bunnythorpe, Marton, and Wanganui towards Taranaki, and supply given in eacli place as far as the total amount! available will permit, no undertak-i mg as to amount that will be available for Wanganui can be given un-i til additional power is available! from Waikareraoana, Arapuni, New Plymouth or other sources. When the full scheme is developed, the amount of power provided is ona horse power to each five head of population, namely, 3600 h.p. f o * Wanganui, Castlecliff and Gonvill©.
