WILFUL MURDER.

(Per United Press Association.) DUNEDIN, February 9. On January 20th the body of a newlylorn infant was found with a sack round it on the sand beach at St. Clair tmd with * piece of linen tied tightly sound its neck. The inquest was adjourned and resumed to-day, when ■the Coroner returned a verdict that the of death was asphyxia, and that deceased was wilfully murdered by some fcerson or persons unknown. DROWNING ACCIDENT (Per United Press Association.) INVERCARGILL, February 9. William J. Plunkct, aged 47, a wellknown farmer, was drowned in the Oreti River on Sunday while bathing. A companion endeavoured to rescue him, but was dragged under water. When the body was recovered life was extinct. A month ago a child of the deceased's was drowned in a sheep dip.
