FORMER MAKES BETTER STAND,

Wellington began its second innings on a good wicket, in fin© but overcast weather. Tlic team mad© a somewhat better stand than in its first innings. Bind and Baker opened, the former playing on ‘ after a single had been scored. Lambert and Baker carried the score to 26, when the former _ sent a. catch back to Smith. McGuir failed to score. Three for 26. A stand was made by the Burton-Baker partnership. Th© former played breezy cricket, but was eventually tempted by one Smith and was stumped. 4—64—27. Condliffe stayed with Baker till the century was passed, and looked like making a score, when Smith, who had been spelled, came on again, and got him first over. s—lol- 21. At the luncheon adjournment Baker and Schrader were still batting, and managed to wipe off the first inning s deficiency, Baker playing a steady innings of 42, not out.
