It would seem as though we will have to wait some little time for a further meeting between Royal Stag and Rossini and so settle the much-discussed question as to whether the first-named was fortunate to win the Great Northern Derby. A Wellington telegram states that the Messrs Eiddiford have bought Rossini, and it is their intention to have him added to the list of geldings, and to treat him to am extended rest. Possibly the operation named may have the effect of making for greater reliability with Rossini, and it will be interesting to note whether he goes up or down the scale when next he sets out to carry silk. The jockey, F. Cress, took seriously ill during the progress of the Wellington meeting.

Surveyor was an odds on favourite when he won the Waterloo Stakes at Trentham on Saturday. It is stated that Mr G. L. Stead may shortly take up his permanent residence in the Waikato. #
