THE PEACE TREATY.

CONFERENCKS ON U.S, RESERVATIONS. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association, Received January 30. 9.10 a.m. NEW YORK, January 29. The Times’ Washington correspondent states that Senator Hitchcock, fearing the termination of the' bi-partism Treaty compromise conferences, announced that, he would move to take up the Treaty on the floor of the Senate. if the conferences were definitely discontinued.

Senator Lodge announced that lie will in no circumstances permit of any changes in his reservation to article 10 and the Monroe doctrine. There seems little hope of securing success by compromise though Senator Hitchcock declares that an agreement on article 10 might be reached if the conferences accept a plan by which Congress will decide when the United States must take np arms to defend the imperilled nations.
