£12,000,000 FOR N.Z. WOOL GROWERS.

Considerable interest is being taken by wool-growers in estimating tiro amount they are likely to receive from the imperial Government as half profits on wool sold, by them for other than military and naval purposes under the wool commandeer. An estimate of sixty million pounds sterling (£60,000,000) was ■published a few days ago as the total Australasian profits under this scheme to the 31st March last. Taking the approximate number of sheep in Australia at one hundred millions and in Now Zealand at twenty-five millions, the amount to bo received by the New Zealand wool-growers will be about £12,000,000. This works out at 9a 7d a sheep, or £479 3s 4<l per thousand sheep. Tiro above calculations are merely approximate, .as no allowance is made for differences in quality or description. Those who are not fortunate enough to participate in this distribution may find some consolation in the thought that the Government income tax will absorb up to about a third of these profits, according to the income of the individual wool-grower. In the meantime, it may be as well to remind our “woolly” friends 1-hat the above figures are merely an estimate.
