A case of great importance to soldiers bud the first of its kind in the Domi-ncn was heard at the Magistrate’s Court, when Henry George Short, contractor, residing at Huutly, was charged that, being the person who purchased chattels with money received by way of assistance under the Repatriation 'Act, he did sell, without the consent- in writer g of officers of the Repatriation Department. The defendant pleaded guilty, but claimed the offence was more "one of carelessness than anything else.
