THE FRINGE OF WALES.

"PROUD TO BE BRITISH*

Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.

LONDON, January 24. The Prince of Wales was banqueted by the Goldsmiths’ Company. In referring to the Dominions, the Prince said that Ids modest public services in recent years had brought him into touch with the splendid character and public devotion of his fellow subjects throughout the Empire. The Prince continued ; “W T e may all be proud to be British subjects. I am intensely proud to be a British subject, particularly now that I have started travelling round the Empire and seeing something of the Dominions for myself. Anyone who has been in Canada cannot help being proud of being a Britisher. I think I shall find the same thing in Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, and I am confident that there is no better example of public spirit and patriotism I have to follow for the rest of my life than the example of my fellow countrymen.”

The Prince was admitted to the Goldsmiths’ Company.
