ITALIAN CRISIS.

STRIKE FAILS. HALF-HEARTEDLY SUPPORTED. SCENE IN PARLIAMENT. SOCIALIST DISTURBANCE. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. Received December 9, 11.10 a.m, ROME, December 4. Newspapers declare that the strike has failed everywhere. Foreign Socialist leaders called it off, fearing that halfhearted continuance would be disastrous to their prestige. The Minister for State declared that the Bolshevik carnival had exhausted ■ itself. The Government was keeping a firm hand on events and a speedy return to order is expected. There was an uproar in theOhambcr when first-class Socialists and clericals of the respective groups assumed a threatening attitude. Debate was impossible, owing to the vociferous howling of vulgar inyestice. Resort to violence seemed inevitable, but the President prevented the outbreak. 'lt is feared in some quarters that a. continuation of such scenes will render Parliament useless and will \ probably necessitate another general election.
