BATHING FATALITY.
A TITAHI BAY SENSATION.
A RESCUER DROWNED. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, December 8. Particulars of the drowning of Dromgool show that members of the picnic party were swimming in the breakers, and two ladies got into difficulties. After assisting m the rescue of one, Dromgool proposed to help with the other, who was being brought l in with some difficulty by J. Neil, a constable, who tried to dissuade him, saying that it was unnecessary, but Dromgool persisted, and was last seen by Neil as the latter turned on his back exhausted to float. Deceased, who was a solicitor in the Public Trust Office, j was about 35, and was only recently f married. 6 NEARLY A TRAGEDY. WELLINGTON. December 8. The Titahi Bay accident was very nearly a tragedy on a large scale. There was a heavy sea with a strong hackwash, and several of the bathers had great difficulty in fighting their way to shore. Two of them had a 45 minutes' struggle. For a time the condition of several after they were brought out was serious, particularly Constable Neil. The absence of a life-lino was partly responsible for the difficulty of rescue.
