Husbabye won the Rongotea Hurdles comfortably from a good field, the favourite, Wbiro, running unplaced. Gang Awa show’od improved form in the big hurdles, for which the gelding was sent out favourite, and won as he liked. There were sixteen starters in the Nikau Handicap, Swanee River being entrusted with most money. The Demosthenes filly won in good style from Ruddy. There was a big dividend in tho Manchester Handicap, Dusky Eve being the popular pick, but he finished out of a place, the winner turning up in Moutoa Ivanova, one of the biggest outsiders of the field. There were eleven starters in tho weight-for-age event, the Oroua Stakes, Acre being made a better favourite than Murihukn. It was a fine race. Croesus lookt>d a winner 100 yards from home, but C. Price brought Acre along with a groat ran. and tho Fordell-trained horse got homo by a bead after a splendid effort. Festival was" backed down to a small price for the Novice Stakes, for which nine saddled up, but the favourite* chance was spoilt through getting away badly. Valley Rose, a throe-year-old filly "by Solfcrino, got the verdict after a good race. The winner was much fancied by her connections on the first day in the Trial, hut did not run up to expectations in that event. Rose Queen was very solidly backed for the concluding event on tha strength of her fine performance on tho first day. but sbe bad to bo. content with second place, Arrowfield scoring an overdue win for Mr W. Duncan by a neck after an exciting finish with the favourite.
