TIMBER PRICES.
AN EXPLANATION, (Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, December 1. A contradiction is given by the Board of Trade to the statements that New Zealand timbers can be purchased in Australia at prices lower than those ruling for the same classes of timber in New Zealand. So far as New Zealand prices are concerned, these are controlled by the Board of Trade by agreement with the sawmillers, and Australian lists in possession of the Board show that prices are considerably lower in New Zealand for all classes of New Zealand timbers. The misconception has probably arisen owing to the fact that Australian lists in some cases quote prices at per 100 feet lineal, whereas the same classes of timber in New Zealand price lists would bo quoted at 100 feet super.
