TECHNICAL COLLEGE

A meeting of the above committee was held last evening in the Technical College, when there were present— Messrs C. "Brown (chair), J. Parkes, W. Bruce, Patterson, Hayes, D. McGregor, Luxford, G. S. Russell, Richardson, Benge, and Mrs McKebzie. In the course of his report the chairman referred to the following matters: Price’s house.—The College Board of Trustees offer a lease of section and house, including ground originally intended for a road. I think the committee should recommend that this be secured. It would be useful (1) to provide temporary accommodation for boys and later for girls’ hostel; (2) eventually from Price’s house a caretaker’s house could be built; (3) alternatively the ground, almost threequarters of an acre, would provide girls’ playing grounds; (4) eventually the ground will probably be of great value for educational purposes and we can afford the rental at present asked for, viz., £6O per annum. Mr Luxford recommended that the Board should secure this particular site as it would be very handy for some considerable time, and altogether he thought that money spent in this direction would he money well spent, and he thought it was a good proposition for the Board. Mr Richardson endorsed Mr Luxford’s remarks, and moved that the lease he acquired. Mr Russell seconded the motion, which was carried. Girls’ side of School.—On the girls’ side of the school the school building comes to within 10 feet of the northern boundary on Victoria Avenue. This is unfortunate, and it would he better if the school ould get 30 feet added to this. There would then be enough room for the girls to move about in at intervals, and for outdoor drill, etc., and it seems possible that the College Board would give the space.—lt was decided to make application to the Wanganui College Board of Trustees for this grant. Hostel.—Re the acquiring of-’ a. site for a hotscl, it was decided to call a meeting in a week’s time to consider the report of a sub-committee consisting of Messrs Luxford, Richardson, and the chairman, who are to go into the matter in the meantime. Past Students’ Performance. —In view of the fact that the mock court performance given by the Past Students’ Association of the Technical College was such a pronounced success, it has boon decided to engage the Opera House for an entertainment which has derived its inspiration from the present election campaign. Occasional requests are made for the use of the Technical College Hall and chairs, and the committee feel that some provision should bo made for granting this, and that a charge be fixed. This was left in the hands of the chairman. The hrenking-up ceremony null take place on Friday, December sth. Authority to spend the sum of £ls for prizes was granted. A meeting of the committee will be held on Monday nest.
