MR McILVRIDE AT CASTLECLIFP The official Labour candidate, Mr Lewis Mcllvride, addressed a meeting in furtherance of his campaign, in the Town Hall at Castlecliff last evening. The weather was unfavourable, but there was an attendance of some 50 electors, which was very satisfactory in the circumstances, The candidate was well received and given a very attentive hearing. At the close of the address a motion o| thanks and confidence in Mr Mclfvride was declared carried by 40 to 4-

MR YEITCH AT DUBLIN STREET. Last evenihg Mr W. A. Yeitch addressed the electors in the Methodist Schoolroom, in Dublin Street, Mr J. Newlands presiding. Mr Yeitch dealt with Parliamentary reform and the political future of New Zealand in an interesting manner. In reply to a question whether it was a fact that he voted to put Mr Massey in power, Mr Yeitch said that he had entered politics with the avowed purpose of removing a Minister of Railways who was then giving the railwayment a very bad time indeed. When Mr Massey had moved a vote of no-confidence in the Government of which the Minister of Railways in question—who was now dead, and whom he did not wish to criticise—was a member, he had voted for the motion, as the only method of removing the Minister was by defeating the Government of which he was a Cabinet member. He (Mr Yeitch) on that occasion had remained true to the pledge he had given on entering the House, and had voted for the no-confidence motion. Mr Massey’s motion, however, was not carried. Later the Government was reconstructed, and Mr MaoKenzie, who was now High Commissioner for New Zealand in London, assumed the Prime Ministership. When Mr Massey had moved a vote of no-confidence in the MacKenzie Administration, he tad voted against the motion, and he had constantly voted against Mr Massey ever since. At the conclusion of his address the candidate was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. J *
