HOME INDUSTRIES In the secondary schools’ prize list of the Home Industries section, in last evening’s issue, the third prize for sponge roll was by error attributed to Ivy Alabaster. It was won by Jean McDonaldThe full list of stewards in the Home Industries section was: Messrs Jas. Grant (chief), E. O’Meara, Mrs Crawford, Misses Shewan, Stemp, Warnock, Deem, Hanton and Mrs Aitken. REMARKS BY JUDGE. Miss Hopklnson, of Waverley, who judged the cooking exhibits in the Home Industries classes, made the following suggestions for improvements in the schedule:— Fruit cake—Rich fruit cake should be made to a certain weight.

Home-made bread —This should be made in either two or fourpound loaves, as it Is not fair to judge a very small loaf against a large one. ' Walnut cake—ln this class there were good entries, some jeed sponge walnut cake, others not iced. Two classes should he made of this. Sponge* sandwich—ln this class some sponges were iced, a good deal of trouble being taken in doing so. Two classes should be made or there should be a stipulation as to icing, as the two kinds cannot be fairly judged together.

Tea cake—ln this class there was only one proper tea cake, the others being made with cream of tartar and soda. There should either be two classes or it should be defined whether they are to be made with yeast, or with cream of tartar.

Jam tarts-—Open jam tarts should be stipulated. Currant bread—This also should be made to weight. Mechanical drawing—L. Jannett 1, Y. Read 2.
