FORD’S LATEST ACHIEVEMENTS. THE NEW COUPELET. . I (Published by Special Arrangement.) The Ford Motor Company has unquestionably revolutionised the motor world with its manufactures, and there is not the slightest doubt that the “Ford” ia the best known and mostly-nsed car on the road at the present day. The reason 'for this is not far to seek, as it can be summed up in a few words—that the “Ford” gives equal service for less outlay. Tho Ford car is a “real service” car in every sense of the word, and the person who requires a motor vehicle, with an engine equal, if not superior, to the high-priced cars, will always pay out his good money cheerfully for a “Ford,” and never regrets the bargain. That is by the way. 1 The object of this article is to draw attention to the fact that Mr E. W. Merewether, of the Ford Services, Taupo Quay, has recently received something classic in the form of a car, namely, the Ford Coupelet, which can easily be classed as the last word in cars. It is proving one of tbe best and most attractive exhibits at the Show grounds, and we feel quite confident in asserting that it is Die unanimous verdict of the crowd that a lovelier design, a more solid or. better upholstered and finished article has never been placed on the market. Tbe Coupelet is very “dinky,” and is very suitable for doctors, professional men, and as a ladies’ afternoon runabout car it has no equal. It is built as a protection against, all kinds of weather, and is so beautifully designed that the windows can, by cunning devices, be opened or closed as desired. The. seat is large and roomy, and the upholstering, which has been carried out on a lavish scale, is of Bradford cord and in a pleasing gray. Although a great deal has been written about this latest manufacture, an inspection of the Coupelet at the Ford Service exhibition at the Show grounds, or subsequently at Mr E- Mere wether’s Ford Service Garage, Taupo Quay, will, we feel sure, prove convincing that, though much has been said and written concerning the Ford manufactures, not one-half has ever been told. THE EORDSON TRACTOR. This splendid machine, which is revolutionising agriculture, is also to be seen. The Eordson Tractor is the result of extensive trials and experiments conducted by Mr Henry Ford, covering a .period of many years. Before placing the Tractor on the market, every detail has been thoroughly tried but under actual farmjug conditions in various parts. of the ‘world. In developing the Fordson Tractor, the aim has been to produce a Tractor which will be low in first cost, reliable, and, above all, efficient. Tho simplicity of its operation and construction will at once appeal to all farmers. This is the Tractor for which the British Government placed an order for 6000. These were all delivered before a single private sale was effected. Henry Ford promised to assist the Food Production Department by delivering the Tractors in England before the end of the 1917 season, to enable the Old Country to grapple with the submarine menace by increasing the acreage under cultivation. The Tractor is designed as a two-plough machine, and will pull two 14in. ploughs in the stillest soils. It will maintain a drawbar pull of 1800 pounds at ploughing speed. In low gear a. drawbar pull of 2500 pounds is obtained. The fuel consumption varies with conditions fr # om one and a half to two gallons of kerosene per acre being a fair average. The amount of ’ground ploughed also depends on conditions, eight acres in ten hours would strike au aver-

age. After exhaustive tests, the British Government has continued to use kero sene as the fuel in all the Fordson Tractors, and under official observation a large tract of land was ploughed,’ with a consumption of 1.84 gallons of kerosene per acre. Two of these machines are at the present time being operated in the Manawatu flax swamps of Messrs A. and L. Seifert and Mr Walter Seifert, and those gentlemen state that the Fordson is doing 'great work under almost impossible conditions. Since the beginning of February the Ford service has disposed of over 900 one-ton trucks, and ovdt 300 orders are awaiting deliveries, and the reason for this great demand is not far to seek. As a matter of faot, whether you run a departmental store, a farm, a carrying business, or are connected with transport in any shape or form, the Ford One-Ton Truck must interest you. A Fo r d Truck can do the work performed by several horses—it is cheaper and gives letter service. For the farmer tho “(iis'iance to anywhere” vanishes into thin air if a Ford Truck is used. It is to your advantage to sec this splendid and economical appointment, and MrE. Merewether, Taupo Quay, W T anganui, will be pleased to give you all particulars and a demonstration. The Oldsmobile factories have been, manufacturing tho Oldsmobile for 22 years, and arc acknowledged to bo the masters of the automibile trade. These well-made cars have, as a matter of fact, laid the foundation for the industry years ago, and it is an historical fact that the Oldsmobile engineers set the design for the world’s market. They did not rest content with that achievement, for they maintain the great reputation among car manufacturers by keeping well in advance, and each year is marked hy a fresh wonder car. Setting the pace for beauty, power, finish, design, and quality of the manufactures are the Oldsmobile Factory’s trade secrets. To describe the Oldsmobile adequately and do it justice is beyond the powers of a newspaper article, and the best method of being satisfied as to tho merits of the premier car is to make a personal investigation. One car advertises another, and there is always a steady demand for the parent car. The Oldsmobile is supplied in six and cylinder models, and those who contemplate \providing themselves with a car that has a world-wide reputation for reliability, durability, and general satisfaction, and a car of which the user is invariably'proud, should get in touch with Messrs W. Tho car now being displayed speaks eloquently of the fact that the Oldsmobile is the production of the very best brains and the best factories in the motor world.
