NEW ZEALAND MEAT TRADE.

Somk time ago grave concern was expressed by the prpduccrs at the condition of the meat export trade in New Zealand, and trade conditions in the Old Country. A delegation of farmers’ representatives was appointed to go to England to find out the condition of affairs there, and to ascertain how the position could be improved. The Government promised its assistance, and the delegation was appointed and approved of by the fanners. Several mouths or more

have passed, but still the members of the delegation are in New Zealand waiting the promised assistance. Meantime the condition of affairs at Home is going from bad to worse. The wholesale price of New Zealand meat has been increased by 24 d so as to assist the sale of English meat; the quality of the New Zealand meat coming 011 the English market is.4 not good, it is old and of bad flavour, ' and in such a condition as create a prejudice against meat front this conntry. It is a matter of vital importance to the meat industry of this country that these matters should be put right a a soon as possible. If the Prime Minister is sincere in his protestations of being a benefactor to tile people of New Zealand, why has he delayed for so long in sending the delegation Home? Rumour hath it, and the whisper comes from a veryq reliable quarter, that Mr Massey is holding off to see Die result of the elections. It is suggested that in the event of the'defeat of (he Reform Party he will go Home as High Commissioner, or in some other official capacity, and naturally he does not desire the delegation to do much investigation: he wants the honour and glory for himself.
