MOCK COURT.

BREACH OF PROMISE,

A BREEZY ENTERTAINMENT.

The Technical College Assembly Hall was filled to overflowing on Friday eveningj when a mock court under the auspices of the Technical College Old Boys was attended by a large number of parents and young people. The “case” was one in which Evi Gerty Chasem, plaintiff (Mr Fleecem) sued Adam Gaybird, defendant (Mr Grabbit) for alleged breach of matrimonial promise. “Evidence,” which, was nearly conclusive,-was brought forward to show that Gaybird was guilty of Jilting the plaintiff for another country maiden. The evidence further showed that Gaybird had negotiated with a local millionaire for the purpose of purchasing a section of his farm, which he intended to use as a flea farm. In answer to a question by counsel for plaintiff, lie learned that the defendant. was going to manufacture of beer from “hops.” The Jury, though “good men and true-/’ had on several occasions to be reprimanded for inattention, to say nothing of his Dishonour Justice Stout Giriness Backbite, who, dpring tho hearing of the case, not a few time 'got on the wrong track of things. On one occasion, his Dishonour, who fell during the discussion concerning a sheep farm, awoke in another stage in the evidence which concerned the erection of an ornamental lion on the Queen’s Park acre, when he exclaimed, “But you can’t feed sheep on ‘dandy’ lions?” Everybody laughed, and amid the shouts of “order,” the case was allowed to continue. The evidence of Mrs Georgina Clementina Evergreen, the mother of the plaintiff, was screamingly funny. Towards the end the plot thickened, and finally the case took a most unexpected turn of ©vents, and the members of the court were Joined in unholy matrimony, including his Dishonour, who had been paying great attention, throwing “glad eyes,” and the like, to the plaintiff’s mother, and one could see even from the audience what the end of the affair would be.
