THE TARANAKI SEAT. (Per United Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, November 18. Mr C. E. Bellringer, who has twice unsuccessfully contested the Taranaki seat in the Liberal interest, declined this morning to accop) nomination by the Reform party. The probability is now that Mr Smith will not be seriously opposed. THE KAIAPOI SEAT.

CHRISTCHURCH. Nov. 18

Mr David Jones, the Reform candidate for Kaiapoi, delivered his initial address last night at Rangiora. He received a good hearing. After dealing with general topics, the candidate referred at length to soldier settlements, and compared the cost of living in the Dominion and Australia. Ho opposed the nationalisation of coal mines, favouring electrical development. He supported the present education system, but the present military system should be wiped out, and a revision made in the Cadet system. The shipping monopoly should bo broken even if the country established its own shipping line. A' vote of thanks was carried.

MR LYSNAR TO BE A CANDIDATE. GISBORNE, Nov. 17. Mr W. D. Lysuar has announced his candidature for the Gisborne seat in response to a large requisition. He will stand as an Independent on two conditions; one, that should the \vork affect his sight in his remaining eye he will resign, two, that ho will have permission, to visit England at an early date. Sir James, Carroll has also announced his candidature.
