SATURDAY NIGHT IN DUNEDIN

DUNEDIN, November 17. There were disgraceful scenes in MacLaggan Street on Saturday night, when the police went to arrest a man. Sub-Inspector Mathieson said it - was the most ugly crowd he had ever • encountered. As a result three men appeared in Court to-day, one charged with disorderly behaviour while drunk, with resisting a constable while in the execution of his duty, and using threatening behaviour whereby a breach of the peace was occasioned. The second man was charged with using indecent language, with obstructing a constable and damaging a motor-car, and the third man was charged with obstructing a constable, with damaging clothes and an umbrella the property of the Sub-Inspector of Police, and also with assaulting the Sub-Inspector. The lat»or added that the police got no assistance from civilians, although some holding high positions were standing by. He added that between fifty and a hundred people took part in the disturbance. . The three accused were remanded.
