MELBOURNE, November 18

Mr W. M.oHughes, at a big meeting, explained the • referendum proposals which he intended to use only in allaying industrial unrest, dealing with the profiteering convention at which the States would be represented, to be held next year, to consider the revision of the Constitution. His statement that socalled Labour people opposed tbe proposals, led to continued interruptions. Mr Hughes said be asked the people of Australia to give him power to deal with profiteering, and give a man a fair wage, if they did not do so, they could get someone else to lead them.
