AMUSEMENTS & MEETINGS.

HIS MAJESTY’S. A splendid change of moving pictures was screened at His Majesty’s Theatre last evening. The chief attraction in the new series is the appearance of Francis X. Bushman and Beverley Bayne in the delightful comedy-romance, ‘ ‘Social Quicksands.” The story is full of quick action and bright comedy—not forgetting a ding-dong hgJit between Francis X. Bushman and a pair of toughs. The supporting pictures are of a very high standard. The music by Fuller’s Orchestra adds pleasure to the entertainment. Intending patrons should book their seats at Upton’s, as further bumper houses are assured. DRUIDS’ HALL DANCE. The popular Tuesday dance will he held to-night (November 18). As usual the arrangements arc in perfect order. A cordial invitation is given to all, and visitors will be well looked after. A number of people are under the impression that this dance is held on Thursday, but it is ih no way connected with the dance being held on that night. EVERYBODY'S THEATRE. One of the interesting episodes surrounding the making of “Riders of the Purple Sage,” the big photo-play in which William Parmim appeared to a packed house last evening, was the construction of an entire Mormon town under the direction of Mr Earn urn’s director, Frank Lloyd. In this town was also constructed a home which is occupied by Jane Witberstoen, the leading feminine character in the production. This home is entirely burned in one of lie scenes. Patrons are advised to attend early to-night, as the demand for seats is sure to be great.

Lovers of dancing are again reminded of the waltzing competition for novices which will take place in the Wanganui East Town Hall to-morrow (Wednesday) night, for which four good prises are provided. The music will bo supplied by Mr N. Kirk, and together with a first-class floor and good music a most enjoyable evening’s amusement is assured. A free motor ’bus will leave after the dance for the convenience of town patrons. WELCOME HOME AT OKOIA. On Thursday evening last the residents of Okoii gathered hi force to welcome home from active service all the boys who had left the district in their country's sendee. The Patriotic Committee who had been working diligently in mating the necessary arrangements are to be complimented on their efforts. Mr Penn, in a brief speech, on beha’f of the residents expressed their thanks for the sacrifices that had teen made and the hardships that had been endured in the Empire’s cause. Mr W. Hirst also spoke, and thanked the “Diggers” for' their patriotism. He also mentioned the fact that the women, too, had nobly borne the tasks which the war had brought on their shoulders, and ho thought it would he a good plan to get. the mothers of the boys together and endeavour to show their appreciation for what They had done. Private P. McGrail, the last of the district’s hoys to return, briefly replied and thanked the residents for their kindness. Dancing commenced shortly after, and it was in the early hours of Friday morning before a very pleasant evening came to a close.
