WANGANUI COUNTY COUNCIL
\ MONTHLY MEETING. The usual monthly meeting of the Wanganui County Council was held this morning, the chairman, Cr. Hine, presiding. There were also present— Crs. Robinson, Neilson, Allen, Collier,, D. Macintosh, A. D. Mcintosh, Collins, and McGregor. RIVER ROAD.—At the request of Mr Gregor McGregor, Mr W. Bamber wrote suggesting that in view ■ of the early merging of the Morikau riding into the Wanganui County, the local bcdy should allow the engineer to undertake work in connection with the grants for River Road. The estimates showed a straight-out grant of £2025 for work between Upokongaro and Jerusalem. It had been suggested that this money be spent in widening the cutting along Otwnaeire, and widening the cutting over Paparoa stream, the boundary of the f two Counties, and in forming a track from Ranana to Jerusalem as far as the money would go. The two former works were in the Wanganui County, and the latter in the Morikau riding. It was decided'to agree to the request provided an application came from the Waimarino County Council. CONSERVING TIMBED—The Council endorsed resolutions submitted by a, conference of local bodies at Levin the other day. The resolutions dealt with the conservation of timber and regulation of export. RIVER ROAD.—A deputation representing' settlers on the River Road from Harper's onward waited upon the Council to ask for- improvements to the road. The deputation pointed out that no metal, had been put on the road for many years. The engineer was authorised to report on the oondiiaoa of tte load, !
