QUIETENING THE EGYPTIANS.
A DISPLAY OF FORCE. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. LONDON, November 13. The official prohibition of demonstrations, combined with .a strong display by the police, had a quieting effect in Alexandria. A few hundred noisy demonstrators were dispersed after skirmishes with the police, and a few arrests were made, but there wa*s nothing like an organised movement. An appeal for volunteers to run the railways has resulted in hundreds offering daily. The threatened general strike is apparently indefinitely postponed.
