JOCKEY ELLIS BADLY INJURED
CHRISTCHURCH, November 12
As the last of the horses were passing the post in the Randolph Handicap, Mandrake, ridden hy F. W. Ellis, came down, probably through getting on the heels of the horse in front. Fleetham, who was following, was unable to clear Mandrake and fell on top of Ellis, who was removed to the hospital, his condition beink very serious. Inquiry at the hospital at 11.30 p.m. elicited the fact that F. Ellis, who was injured at Riccarton, was suffering from a fractured skull, two broken legs, a broken arm and broken ribs. In spite of his injuries his condition was reported to be better than at the time of his admission, and consciousness , was returning.
