CASTLECLIFF TOWN BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. The usual monthly meeting of the Castlccliff Town Board was held lastnight, there being present Cmrs. H. M . Cooper (chairman), G. Meuli, C. S. McKenzie, T. G. Beaven, J. H. Passmore, and T. H. Nixon. WORKS COMMITTEE.—The Committee reported having instructed the Engineer to proceed with improvements to the Town Hall. It recommended that the footpath in Puriri Street be cleared tip and metalled for a width of four feet for the whole length of the street; tim-t approaches be made for residents in Totara Street, provided the necessary material for culverts was supplied by the owners; that Karaka Street he widened as early as possible and the lower portion brought up to its proper level; also at the junction of Taupata Street the sandhills to be removed full road width ; that an approach he made to the terrace on the sea front from Eangiora Street. The Committee reported having instructed the Engineer to proceed with kerning the footpaths on both sides of the roadway in Bryce Street from Cross Street to Watt Street; also that the Engineer was asked to submit an estimate of the cost of a concrete roadway from the tram terminus to the bcacir This road is to be kerbed opposite the Kiosk as early as possible.—The report- was adopted. DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE.—In reply to the request for financial assistance towards the preliminary expenses of the League, the Board stated that it could , not see its way to make a grant at pre- 1 eent.

ENGINEER’S REPORT. —ln the course of his report, the Engineer stated that the Karewa Street Extension had been completed to the sea front, and a commencement made with the graded entrance along to the terrace from Ean- • giora Street. Water Extensions; Some 300011 of small mains had been laid during the month, but the work had been stopped at present owing to lack of material. As he could obtain nothing definite as to when further supplies "would be available, the whole staff practically had been dispensed with. WATER CHARGES .-It was decided to charge 7s 6d per 1000 gallons for water to shipping, and the Board is to be asked to pay half the cost of laying the main from the Heads Road to' the wharf. The charges for ordinary consumers will be 2s reducible by discount to Is 4d. RATES.—The last day for payment of rates without the 10 per cent, penalty was fixed at November 28th.
