N.Z. METROPOLITAN TROTTING , MEETING, TRIX POINTER WINS THE CUP. (Per United Press Association.') CHRISTCHURCH, Nov; 11. The New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s Spring Meeting opened in glorious weather, but a fresh breeze blowing had a tendency to raise dust. The track was in excellent order, and the attendance constituted a record. The sum invested on the Cup, £16,147 10s, is the largest amount handled by the totalisator on any race in the Dominion. After the event the Countess of Liverpool presented the Cup to Mr W. H. Norton, owner of. Trix Pointer. During the day the tote handled £76,291, as compared with £52,091 10s on the corresponding day last year. Results:—

NEW ZEALAND CUP. 5-TRIX POINTER (F. Holmes) 1 2- (A. Pringle) 2 3 MATCHLIGHT (J. Bryce) .... 3 Also started; 6 Sherwood (N. L. Price), 1 Author Dillon and John Dillon (coupled), 4 Albert Cling, 9 Don Caesar, 8 Agathos, 7 Erin’s Queen 10 Mintson. John Dillon refused to strike gait and took no part in the race. Moneymaker went off smartly, and soon established a considerable break, Erin’s Queen and Mintson being the nearest attendants. Agathos broke at the end of a mile and was not persevered with. Three furlongs from home Erin’s Queen moved up to Moneymaker and Trix Pointer commenced her run, staying on beautifully. The last-named drew away and won by four lengths from Moneymaker, Matchlight being a similar distance in front of Erin’s Queen, who beat Sherwood for fourth money by two lengths. Time, 4.30. St. Albans Handicap.—4 Birdwood, 1; 1 All Bell, 2; 7 Pleasant Mount, 3. Also started: 8 Cora D'dlon, 3 Ariadne and King Karri (coupled). 9 Lord Dillon, 6 Captain Stanley. 5 Frank Tracey, 2 Xavier, 10 Proud Spring Won by four lengths, third horse six lengths away. Victoria Handicap.— 3 Dandy Chimes 1, 7 Legacy 2, 5 Gleaming 3. Also started: 9 Sympathy, 1 Capriccio, 2 Jack ArraJi, 6 Nora Greina, 8 Brown’s Nugget, 11 Sir Fulham, 10 George Hard. Nora Greina and Capriccio stood on the mark and took no part in the race. Won by two lengths, the same distance between second and third. Tune, 4.41 4-5.
