Public Notices. WANGANUI HARBOUR BOARD ELECTION, Ladies and Gentlemen,— "jVTOT being satisfied that the works in connection with Wanganui’s Port are proceeding at a satisfactory rate, I have decided to become a Candidate at the coming election, and, if elected, will do my utmost to—(1) Acquire from the Railway Department the Town Wharf, Sheds, Foreshore and adjoining Land necessary for the expansion of our growing trade. (2) Equip the Port with modem facilities for landing cargo. (3) Revise Wharf Charges. (4) Expedite the Harbour Works (in progress and proposed), and by ener-. getic dredging, open the Port toocean liners as early as possible. Yours faithfully, S. HOLM. TO THE ELECTORS, T ABIES AND GENTLEMEN,— Having consented to contest the forthcoming Harbour Board Election, I think my reasons for so doing should be made known to the electors, 1. —I look upon the successful completion of thq. Harbour as the chief item which will assure Wanganui that, importance and prosperity her geographical position demands. 2. —I am of opinion that anyone who is elected to the Harbour Board should be prepared to devote their whole energies (so far, as public bodies are concerned) to the welfare of that body. There is too great a tendency for the same men trying to do duty on a large number of public bodies, resulting in a half-hearted interest in their duties. 3. —The securing of the Town Wharf by the Harbour Board should be most vigorously proceeded with. 4. —The opening up of deep-water berthage at Castlecliff and the keeping open of the river channel are the most important works, and to these I am willing to devote my energies. While I am at all times quite willing to answer any questions on harbour matters as far as I am able, I desire to say that, as it has been my practice in the past to leave anonymous correspondence alone, so I will continue in the future, aid I -would ask those who favour my candidature, as well as those wo are opposed to it, to make their remarks openly over their own. names. I will appreciate the former the more and take no umbrage from the latter. I take it that all those contesting this election are actuated by a desire ■ to see this district progress, and if we disagree as to details of policy that is no reason why mud-slinging should be introduced. Yours faithfully, G. H. POWNALL, Fop Sale or To Let. NOTICE. FOR SALE, Suitable for. Retired Gentleman.
