REFLECTIONS.

BY “A. MAN IN THE STREET.”Exciting times are ahead of us in na* tioual ami municipal politics. Probably tho most momentous poll which has ever taken place in. the Dominion will eventuate on April 10. To the average man it appears almost a crime that huge sums of money should be spent in lighting a question which to a great extent is a matter of conscience. If you eliminate thfi profiteers on both sides, the average citizen is left, and ho will have to pay the piper and suffer accordingly. Oh, the pity of it! Vi'ith regard to local matters, the Labour Party «o far have a poor show,. They appear to have no delinito local policy, and have only promulgated generalities, which sound very nice, but cannot attract votes. Most people are agreed that Lalwur should be represented on public boards, but it behoves the electors to see that unselfish, independent, and broad-minded men are placed there. Some of us arc opposed to ladies serving on public bodies. Much can, be said on both sides, but the proof of tho pudding is in the eating. Most will agree, 1 think, that while women should have an equal say as voters, but very few arc qualified to sit on deliberative or spending bodies, for the simple reason that they are women. An infusion of new blood is always a good thing, and it; is the rule in aU societies, either of a private or a public nature, where this does not periodically occur, to find these bodies deterirato in initiative and efficiency. «
