COREESPONDENCE

RETURNED SOLDIERS. To Die Editor. Sir, —A correspondent signing him* eeif “Worried” in your issue must have been considerably distressed when be (or whoever it is) wrote on the subject above his nom de plume. I should say, Mr Editor, your correspondent is of the type of person that evaded serving his country. Unlike his less fortunate associates who were “landed” under the shirkers’ clause of the Defence Act, he did nothing at all, and no doubt his conscience pricks him when he passes one of his countrymen minus an arm or leg as the result of fighting for such a despicable Britisher (?) as your corres-' pondent. “Worried” must be even well informed on military matters. He says the boys “were well fed, paid, and clothed.” Were we? How good of “Worried” to tell us this. He knows !!! Forget the war! Well, visho wants to remember it, but who can forget? Soldiers in the past were forgotten; but don’t forget, ‘"Worried,” the wars of the past from as far back in history as I can relate were “minor operations” as compared with this one, and never before has civilisation bees threatened and had to be defended as by the soldiers of the Allies in this war. •’’Worried” evidently belongs to the anti-everything gang that would rob the soldier of a small gratuity in order to release that gang of. shirkers at present serving time for breaches of the Act which “landed” many of his type and compelled them to serve in the non-combatant corps, most 02. I would supply my own name, hut think I’m privileged like “Worried,” and remain WEL LFED, WELL CIOTHED; WEhL PAID. [The sentiments of the above letter are endorsed by nine other soldiers, who forward their names in addition to the writer.—Ed, W-.H.]
