EDUCATION BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING. The usual monthly meeting of Wanganui Education Board was held last night, Mr F. Pirani presiding There were also present Messrs Fraser, Hollins, Joblin, Bruce, Freeth, Piikington and Mclntyre. NEW SCHOOLS. The Board’s architect submitted a to* port on the month's work, including the following remarks: GONYILLE.—Tie erection .of buildings is now in hand. The carpenters’ work is now nearing completion, white the plastering work is moving slowly, owing mainly to insufficient labour. Under reasonable conditions the buildin? should be ready for occupation m four to six week’s time. . QUEEN’S PARK.—Working drawings are being prepared for the new Queen’s Park school and it is proposed to call tenders for the brick and concrete work sometime in May. KAIKB.—A deputation of settlers from Kaike, 24 miles from Taihape wailed upon the Board with a request for a new school building. The school was now being held in a hall which was old and insanitary. There were 25 children on the roll and more were nearly at school age. The settlers were prepared to clear and fence the site. The Board decided to ake an application for a new KIM BO ETON.—The Education Department notified the granting of £319 for additions, to Kimbolton. CROFTON. —The Board decided to erect a school near the Junction, and decided to take the necessary steps to apply for a grant for the new building. REPAIRS AND ALTERATIONS— Ohakune: ’The Committee granted £lO for improvements of grounds, money to come from rent of bowling green. Stanley Creek; Tender for drainage; work, £33 19a, accepted. •College Street (Palmerston North), new out-offices, 1o cost £260 authorised. Bedding D.H.S.: Repairs to be carried out. Queen's Park: £ for £to be granted for repairs. Foiton: Explanation asked for why work costing £l3 15s 4d commenced when not referred to local representative. Gonville: Authority to erect fuel shed granted on condition the committee raised £lO, which would be subsidised. Notice to be given to adjoining owner to remove lupins. Western Rangitikei; The foreman was instructed to remove the Mt. Curl School to Western Rangitikoi. a THE STAFF. RESIGNATIONS.—The following resignations were accepted: —W. 11. Joblin was pointed the Board’s representative at the Town Planning Conference. It was. decided to decline a suggestion from the Wanganui Collegiate School Board of Trustees regarding (he appointment of a aergeant-major to supervise physical training, shooting, etc., of School Cadets. At the request, of the British Empire Union, it was decided to circulate a circular headed “A German Naval V'clory,” dealing with the sinking of the Lusitania.
