MAIN TRUNK BLOCKED
ANOTHER SLIP AT MATAROA. Exceptionally bad weather has been experienced in the Main Trunk districts this season, and this has led to more than the usual number of slips blocking roads and railway lines. Just a few weeks ago a bad slip, unfortunately attended with fatal results, occurred near Mataroa. Last evening, between 6 and 7, another slip, of large dimensions, came down in nearly the same locality. The slip is reported to be about 25 yards long by about 12 yards deep. It is exacted that it will take two or three days before “all clear" is reported again, and meanwhile passengers and mails are being transhipped. Passengers on the express train from Wellington last evening had the unenviable experience of transhipping under most unfavourable weather conditions.
Wanganui passengers and mails from Auckland will arrive here by tbe New Plymouth mail train at 3.20 p.m.
The goods and parcel service north of Mataroa has been suspended till the slip has been cleared away, and only light passenger luggage will be accepted. ' It is expected to have the line clear by Monday.
