THE MENIN RIDGE STRUGGLE.

FRIGHTFUL ENEMY LOSSES. W UNSUCCESSFUL EFFORTS TO REGAIN POSITIONS. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) Received October 4, 9.25 a~.m. ♦ . LONDON, October 3. The Headquarters report that as the result of fighting arising out of German counter-attacks on Monday our position beyond Cameron House seems almost if not quite restored, whilst elsewhere we have advanced over 100 yards. The enemy suffered frightfully in unsuccessful attempts to regain the shell-hole area. There is a considerable proportion of Poles and Alsatians in the new troops which the Germans have hurried up to defend Mentn Ridge.
