WOMEN’S CHRISTIAN TEMPERANCE UNION.

The usual monthly meeting of the Wanganui East branch of the W.C.T.U. was held on Friday last, when Mrs Duxfield (president) presided over a wellattended meeting. After devotional exercises led by Mrs Dowsctt, the minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Additional gifts, valued at 255, for the n'inc-swcepers were handed in, and it was decided to assist the Wanganui Union in preparing the doll stall at the Wanganui Agricultural Show in aid of thd Eed Cross work, «nd also to help with the “Our Day” efforts by contributing to the Patriotic Eed Cross Shop. It was reported that during September 11 suits of pyjamas, 2 pairs hand-knitted socks, and 2 pairs handknitted mitts have been made for the Eed Cross room by the White Ribbon Guild. Miss Powell, Dominion organiser, gave a very helpful address on “The Work of the •■W.C.T.U.,” referring to past wdrk as women availed themselves of the advantage of the franchise, and to possibilities of work in the future, also emphasising the importance of keeping the colours flying by alv/aye wearing the little white bow. A hearty vote of thanks was Miss Powell for her helpful address. Three new members were initiated and one was proposed, and several new subscribers to the White Eibbon paper were reported. The next home meeting will be held at Mrs Andrew’s, Mackay Street, on Tuesday, 2nd October, when Miss Powell will be present. Miss Cruickshank, M.A., M.Sc., will address the next meeting on October 26. The meeting closed with the Doxology.
