A SUIT'S COOK EXEMPTED. BECAUSE HE IS AX AUSTRALIAN. (Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, April 12. A young man, a native of Australia, named Frank Kelly, a chip's cook, who was called in the ballot, appealed before the First Auckland Board to-day on the grounds of his occupation, lie had tilled in the enrolment form at a port of arrival. He said the ship v/as under scaled orders, and he did not know he was coming to New Zealand. He had been here since early in March, but wiw unable to leave with any vessel owing to being called up. lie had enlisted twice in Australia, whore seamen were exempt, but found himself as an Australian subject a New Zealand conscript. The Board granted exemption, provided ho remained in his present occupation, and gaw him a certificate to that effect.
